About Crindgèd Daddy
My name is A.E. Osworth and I'm a professor (kinda? technically I'm a lecturer, which is the job they give you when they want to pay you less and ask you to do more while also deprioritizing your well-being in a large, expensive city? My department is great, they're not responsible for that, it's academia-at-large that is). I teach creative writing because I'm also a novelist. I've written two books so far: We Are Watching Eliza Bright and Awakened. And I dabble in a great many other undisciplined practices as well. In fact, I'm working on a project with Carrie Jenkins (she's a philosopher) and Robin Roberts (an artist) on breaking down the disciplinary walls that universities like to pretend are inherent to knowledge organization and generation, but which are just white supremacy masquerading as clarity.
I have a lot of other platforms, and I do engage with large for-profit social media corporations (and I'll not be apologizing even though I wish the world were different). So I have a website that looks polished (though it's not updated, I need to fix that), and a professional persona. This is not that. I've missed the old internet and low-stakes writing. I got my start blogging. I was more of a capitalist back then, so I was focused on making career. As with many, my trajectory is now backtracking off that. I'm extremely pregnant, about to give birth, already on parental leave. I want to have a place to put musings; I like attention, so I want a place to put them where people can find them. I also don't want to be beholden to an expectant audience while trying to figure out how to parent. I will do this when I want as an act of creativity and anarchy. I might take things I start on here and finish them other places. Honestly, I do not know what this will be for, but I do know I'm trying to remember how to make a blog from scratch. (Not really from scratch. I'm using Zonelets, it looks rad as hell.) I think, mostly, it will be me unabashedly liking things. I'm certainly not the first one to do it. Ross Gay, Roxane Gay, everyone gay.
Also I did not misspell "cringe" in my username on purpose (I am so fucking pregnant, my brain is fucking toast) but I am indeed rolling with it. Also I'm trans.
Cheers, all.
